ABOUT BONC
Berkeley/Oakland Neighbors of the Claremont (BONC) was formed in the Spring of 2000 when residents near the Claremont Hotel learned of possible major expansions by the new owners of the hotel, KSL Corporation. Expansion included one 86 unit building in front of the present hotel, a three story garage and 75 condominium/timeshare units along Claremont Avenue. Out of this concern grew the awareness that the Claremont Hotel had never been designated an official city “landmark.” Although not an official landmark, the hotel is surely, in that word’s ordinary sense, a superb landmark. It has been a familiar, beloved and highly significant feature of the communities surrounding it since its opening in 1915.
